How to use fishing net to catch ideas?
In a movie I saw a scene where hero of the movie was showing how to use a hand throwing fishing net. Another character was trying to record a video of the net throwing process. She can’t record the video and requests the hero to throw the net again. While watching this scene, I could not resist the thought that – Why don’t we build a fishing net for our thoughts?
The lead line opens the net to a flat formation when the net is thrown. That creates a driving force which sinks the net due lead weights at the bottom of the net. Fish is trapped in the net as the net sinks and the lead line is pulled to force the lead line to shut and forms a pouch that contains the catch.
Similar to the way the net, how do you throw a net on your ideas? I have seen many people who have great ideas, many of those are not noted and hence never worked upon. Problem is actually not only having ideas but recording the ideas and then executing the potential ones. So how to catch your ideas? For me, I use Google Keep to take quick notes on mobile to note down any new idea. Benefit is that I can also access it on computer. I also use note pad to note new ideas when I don’t want to be distracted with notifications.
Like lead weights help the net to sink, the lead weights are the criteria to evaluate your ideas. I use three parameters to evaluate ideas which. First, how Relevant is the idea to your problem statement, second, is what’s the Road or a path you will select to utilize the idea and third, what’s the Risk if the idea is executed or not? Once the idea passes through these parameters, it is trapped. Like a lead line, you have to pull the idea through utilizing it with a pilot or a prototype.
I think you will also find this method useful whether you are a student, employee, entrepreneur or anybody else. So, what are you waiting for, download this template to use the fishing net for our thoughts.
