1. What was the challenge?

How do you decide on a multi-crore investment? We helped an infrastructure client navigate this exact challenge with a data-backed feasibility study. The client wanted to decide whether to start a hotel or not in Pune, India. If yes, whether it should be a three or four-star hotel, or an in-house restaurant and other such aspects. The client did not have an in-house team to do such a feasibility study.

2. What solution do you provide?

Eha management consultancy defined the scope of this feasibility study by asking the client to focus on 5 areas in Pune for exploration. After that, we created a team of researchers to do online & offline research for those areas.

We bifurcated the research into two categories: Business & Leisure Travel. For business travel, we also decided to approach companies in nearby areas that might book hotels for their guests.

We designed the questionnaires for the research and got them approved by the client. The separate questionnaires were created for Hotel guests & companies. We created a list of hotels & companies in the selected areas.

We studied tourism policy, hotel guidelines, classification of Hotels according to different star categories, and the Indian Hotel Industry Survey 2008-2009.

Based on the research, we provided the recommendation of two areas: 1. For starting a hotel focusing on business travellers and 2. For starting a hotel focusing on Leisure travellers. The report also included arewise analysis, next steps and limitations to consider.

As a marketing consultant, this study proved very important to the client since they were planning to enter the market based on this research or study. It was also important to note that the client hired us due to our expertise in this domain.

3. What results did you deliver?

We delivered a data-backed recommendation identifying two distinct opportunities:
Business Travel Focus: A specific zone optimised for high-frequency corporate bookings.
Leisure Focus: A high-potential area for tourism and weekend stays.

This study empowered the client to move forward with a clear market-entry strategy, mitigating the risk of a multi-crore investment.
