Learning from ‘Startup to a cybersecurity pioneer – The Quick Heal journey’
I had the opportunity to learn about Dr. Sanjay Katkar, Joint Managing Director of Quick Heal Technologies, and his journey from a humble beginning to building one of the leading IT security solutions companies. He spoke about starting Quick Heal in the 90s when software piracy was prevalent and the market was reluctant to pay for homegrown products in India. The company faced numerous challenges in its early days, such as lack of funding, difficulty in attracting talent, and limited market acceptance. Dr. Katkar and his brother Kailash Katkar built a distribution model and kept on innovating the product.
Quick Heal is now present in more than 22 cities in India and more than 70 countries across the globe. Cyber security threats have evolved from viruses to Artificial Intelligence driven attacks. To keep yourself and the organization cyber safe, he suggested keeping the software updated, train teams, take backups, and be prepared for cyber incidents, just as we are for fire drills.
This keynote speech was hosted at the Annual General Meeting of the Software Exporters Association of Pune (SEAP) and I am thankful to them for giving me the opportunity to participate in the session. Some time ago, I had the opportunity to conduct a session for SEAP ‘From Stage Fright to Spotlight: Conquering Public Speaking’ which you can watch here https://youtu.be/y7OK6mwulfU
